Batteries in 2026

The federal battery discount is real — and it steps down over time

Under the Australian Government's Cheaper Home Batteries Program, eligible batteries between 5kWh and 100kWh can create small-scale technology certificates (STCs), which we assign as an up-front discount of around 30% on the installed cost. Since 1 May 2026 the STC factor is tiered by capacity and is reviewed every six months, so the discount reduces over time.

  • 0–14 kWh of usable capacity: STC factor applied at 100%
  • Above 14 up to 28 kWh: applied at 60%
  • Above 28 up to 50 kWh: applied at 15%

Process

How a Sunquest install runs

  1. 01

    Assessment

We review 12 months of interval data, your roof, shading, switchboard and tariff before proposing anything.

  2. 02

    Written proposal

Full system price, equipment makes and models, certificate discount, warranties and timeframe — in writing.

  3. 03

    Approvals & install

We lodge distributor pre-approval and metering paperwork. Install is completed by accredited installers.

  4. 04

    Commissioning & aftercare

Testing, certificates of compliance, monitoring set-up, and a support line for the life of the system.

No door-knocking, no cold-call closing, no “today only” pricing. You get a cooling-off period on any sales agreement where the law provides one, and your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply on top of every manufacturer warranty. Read more on our consumer rights page.
